Baptism of Jesus

Our continuing Exploration through the Life of Jesus Has brought us to the time when Jesus was Baptized.

Jesus is now 30 Years Old....and we will shortly begin learning about his teachings and miracles.  However, I wanted the KIDDOS to know all about the Baptism of Jesus.  He never asks us to do something HE was not willing to do....even BAPTISM.

We added NEW CARDS to our DO You Know? Wall.  My Expectation is for the KIDDOS to be able to answer each of these by the end of the lesson.

For a VISUAL AID, I had to get creative.  I did not have a JOHN the BAPTIZER character/figure.  But, I had a few extra "Samson" characters/figures.  I purchased these several years ago from the Dollar Tree.  So, I used some fur (Camel Fur) and strips of leather to transform a Samson Character/Figure into John the Baptizer.  I am PLEASED with they way he turned out.  The KIDDOS LOVED him!!

I also wanted visuals for LOCUST and HONEY.  Since, that was John's Diet....The KIDDOS LOVED my LOCUST (he rolls) and they loved the honey, too.  I do NOT remember what movie the LOCUST went with---I do know I bought him with a KIDS MEAL several years back.  I knew I would need him someday.

I also used this little book with the KIDDOS.  I love it when I can include a story book with KID friendly pictures with my lessons.  This is a sweet little set of books.  They have two stories in each book....you just flip it over for the "other" story.

We had two new words to add to our WORD WALL.  I chose BAPTIZED AND REPENT.  Those are two important words in the life of a FOLLOWER of JESUS.

Our MEMORY VERSE  was Matthew 3:17.   I explained that GOD was PLEASE with JESUS'S actions and HE can be pleased with our behavior and actions, too.  The KIDDOS love knowing that GOD can be PLEASED by our behavior and actions here on earth.

We ADDED a new CARD to our GOD'S AWESOME PLAN for MAN Timeline.

We are making progress adding cards about the early life of JESUS.

This is the SONG we learned for this lesson.  The kiddos loved singing this one with lots of hand actions.

They used their fingers walking for
"Jesus Came To The River Jordan.
Then they used their fore arm and did a baptizing motion for
"There he was baptized by John."
Opened their arms towards heaven for
     "The heavens opened."
They made their arms go up and down like wings for
      "A dove descended."
And then they cupped their mouth to make a deep sound and sang,
      "This is my Beloved son."

The KIDDOS TAKE-HOME project was made from paper plates and clipart.  The Kiddos added the John, Jesus, the Dove, The Palm Tree and the cotton Clouds.  We left a slot open on the bottom of the plates, so that Jesus could be Baptized.   We pre-colored the paper plates...the KIDDOS just did the "stick" on items.  Again, I do not want activities to take up to much of our Bible Class Time.

This weeks REVIEW game was a "Pin the Dove near Jesus" Game.  The KIDDOS had to answer a question for the opportunity to stick a dove on the board.  I used a bandanna for a blind fold and double-stick tape for the back of the DOVES.

The KIDDOS LOVE any "Pin the _______ on the ______" Games.

As you recall, the second week of the LESSON is when we REVIEW.  It gives me opportunity to correct any misunderstandings.  It gives opportunities to the KIDDOS who missed class the first week to "CATCH UP."  This is the Week we SAY our MEMORY VERSE from MEMORY and we do an ACTIVITY that we add to our EXPLORER JOURNAL.

This LESSONS EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY was  a Color and glue project.  They glued on John's "camel fur" tunic and leather belt and they glued the DOVE descending.  They enjoyed this project.  I have had the little plastic doves for a LOOOOOONG TIME!!!    I'm sure you can get them from a wedding supply place.

I am thoroughly enjoying teaching the KIDDOS through the LIFE of CHRIST.  It is exciting to see them get excited about LEARNING more and more about JESUS!!!

BLESSINGS,

RONDA

Joel Prophesied In Judah --- Locust in Judah

We are moving forward with our EXPLORING BIBLE HISTORY.    Are next lesson is about Joel prophesying in the land of Judah.

I am sure you know the history to this lessonThere was a terrible PLAGUE of LOCUST in the Land of Judah.    Joel told the people of JUDAH that the PLAGUE was NO ACCIDENT.  They had NOT been obeying GOD and they were suffering for their disobedience.      So much for the KIDDOS to learn...both the HISTORY and the APPLICATION.  We MUST obey GOD!!!

The KIDDOS will have three new WORDS for the WORD WALL.  I want to make sure they UNDERSTAND what all three of these words mean.....So, I will explain the words and then have them HELP me use them in a sentence.

We have a NEW CARD to add to our "GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN" timeline.

This is our MEMORY VERSE for this week.  This verse comes directly from the text our lesson comes from.    We will 'sing' this memory verse several times before class time is over. (BELOW is a video highlighting our TAKE HOME project.  The MEMORY VERSE is being sung in the video.)

I decided the best VISUAL would be to have a "SWARM of LOCUST" in our classroom.  I printed SEVERAL clip art Locust/Grasshoppers and cut them out.   Then set them up all over the floor of the classroom.  (Leaving enough room for the KIDDOS to be able to carefully navigate through the locust...when they come into the classroom.)

The KIDDOS have a new song to learn!!!  I  was blessed to write this song during our trip to Florida this past February.  I sang it SEVERAL times in the car.   Matter-Of-Fact, I sang it so many times, my husband was able to sing it.  :-)

If you follow this LINK you will be able to hear how this song goes.

I decided that the KIDDOS would make a "LOCUST" for their TAKE HOME project.   I printed the MEMORY VERSE on the wing.  That way not only is a Locust, but a Locust with a purpose.     I think it turned out cute.

I have them all "put together"---except the heads and eyes.  The KIDDOS will glue the head and eyes on during class time. If time permits the KIDDOS will be allowed to color their Locust, too.

Then the KIDDOS  will glue their "LOCUST" to a PAINT PADDLE.  Adding it to the paint paddle turns it into a type of PUPPET.    ---I will have the KIDDOS sing their Memory Verse while moving their "LOCUST" around!!

Below is a video of the LOCUST moving about as I sang the Memory Verse.

Our REVIEW GAME is called "LEAPING LOCUST!!"

This game will be played by the KIDDOS rolling a die, pulling a question card, if they answer the question correctly they get to MOVE their "LOCUST" ahead the number of spaces that they rolled.

If the LOCUST lands on a plant...they miss a turn.  After all the LOCUST love to eat plants.

The object of the game is to move  the LOCUST from the start line down to the growing CROPS!!!

(BTW, I made the LOCUST GAME pieces from CLIP ART, Binder Clips --with the silver parts removed and Avery Color Dot Stickers.) EASY to assemble.

Next week we will review this lesson.  The KIDDOS will add this project to their
EXPLORER JOURNAL.  The KIDDOS will COLOR the "CROPS" and then add  LOCUST.  I bought the Stickers and  LOCUST at the DOLLAR TREE.  The stickers were found in the School Supply area.  The 3D Locust/Grasshopper came in a package of BUGS.  I found them in the toys.

I think this is going to be an exciting lesson.  I know I am excited about teaching it this Sunday.

Blessings,

Ronda
