Jacob Dreams Of A Ladder

We recently had our Lesson about Jacob and his AMAZING dream!!  I LOVE this Bible Story!!!

Our DO YOU KNOW? Wall was filled with the information that I feel the KIDDOS NEED to know. If they are able to answer these questions I feel they understand the LESSON.

Our GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN timeline is filling up with the stories about the Patriarchs.

We added "BETHEL" to our MAP WALL.

We sang  "JACOB HAD A DREAM."    I love for songs to teach the story.  This one reminds the KIDDOS how JACOB  was part of GOD'S AWESOME PLAN....JESUS would come through his family!!!

Our Memory Verse is Romans 8:31. This is one of those verses that gives KIDDOS comfort and courage.

Remember those paper bracelets I bought at the Dollar Tree a few months ago.  Well, we are putting them to use!!  I write the KIDDOS Memory Verse on them and we place them on their wrist, before they leave the classroom.

The KIDDOS made little LADDERS as their TAKE HOME project.  Years ago, I was able to buy little ladders at Hobby Lobby...however, when I went looking for them a few moths ago, they no longer carried them.  So, I decided to make them.  I used dowels (I have a bunch in the resource room) and small popcicle sticks.   Glued them together and TA-DA....we have ladders!!   To make them stand up, I wrap a rock in Crayola Model Magic Dough.    The  Kiddos glued on the Angels.  The angels were coded to read, "I AM WITH YOU."   Genesis 28:15

Our VISUAL served a secondary purpose.  It was also, our REVIEW GAME.

The KIDDOS loved "PLAYING" this game.  They would pick an angel and remove it, answer the question that was written on the back and then hand it to me.  Once all the angels were removed and since the angels were going up and down on the ladder, to represent the "going up" we had the KIDDOS answer a different question from the angels and put it back on the ladder!!  They LOVED it!!!

The following week the KIDDOS made these to add to their Explorer Journal.     The ladders are made from long skinny popcicle style craft sticks and short colored craft sticks.   The angel stickers are just printed from my computer and ran through my sticker maker machine.    The KIDDOS, also, glued on a ROCK for Jacob to sleep on.

We had so much fun and excitement with this lesson!!!  The KIDDOS really enjoyed it!!!

Judah Goes Into Captivity in Babylon

WOW, we have come to the END of the study of the KINGS of JUDAH and ISRAEL.    I have enjoyed teaching all these lessons to my KIDDOS.   It is hard to believe that we have reached this point in the HEBREWS history.   Just a reminder, I teach  Early Childhood ages 4 1/2 year olds-7 year olds.

Our Do You Know Wall is ready with our WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? WHERE? WHY? and HOW IS THIS IMPORTANT TO ME?  cards.

Our INFORMATION WALL is ABOUNDING with information on the Divided Kingdom.    All the KINGS have a face that shows if the KING was godly (SMILE) or ungodly (FROWN.)    We have all the KINGS represented!!!

This is our CARD for our "GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN" timeline WALL.

I decided to use my CITY of JERUSALEM BLOCKS for my VISUAL AID!    I just printed out some "flames," laminated them and folded the bottoms to make them stand up.  I have the city displayed with the WALLS all knocked down.    I think this will be a very effective VISUAL.

I have several of my wooden peg HEBREWS lined up...they look as if they are being MARCHED off into Babylonian captivity.

I also have a picture of  "Jerusalem and the Temple" on fire...this is sitting on our table.

Our MAP WALL is BUSY...I use this area to display past EXPLORER JOURNAL activities.

We have not had to many PLACES to add to our MAP. But, this week we have a LARGE arrow and Babylon added to the MAP.... I did put Babylon WAY over to the right side.....I want to demonstrate that the Hebrews went WAY away from their homeland.

The KIDDOS will have a new song to sing...It is reminiscent of the "Captivity" song for ISRAEL.   However, this one is ALL about JUDAH.  This is sung to the tune:  "Farmer in the Dell."

If you would like to hear this song, click on the link.  It will route you to the FB page for Hand On Bible Teacher.

Because I want to focus on the NEED for us to TRUST GOD and not be like the nation of JUDAH....I decided to use PROVERBS 5:3 as our MEMORY VERSE.

If you would like to hear the tune for this Memory Verse click the link...it will open the FB page for Hands On Bible Teacher.

The KIDDOS "TAKE HOME" activity is a type of SUBWAY art.    I printed the verse and cut out the heart.  The KIDDOS will get to add their OWN picture to their SUBWAY art.  If the KIDDOS want to color on their SUBWAY art--they can. I want them to enjoy making them and want them to LOOK forward to displaying them.

I decided to use the MEMORY VERSE...I want the KIDDOS to remember to TRUST in the LORD!!!

I purchased the frames and the ribbon at the Dollar Tree.  I have blue and red ribbon.  I will allow the KIDDOS to choose their ribbon color.

I hope the KIDDOS and their parents LOVE these!!!  I think it turned out sweet.

Our REVIEW game is called:  FLAMES and CHAINS Bowling.  The idea is that the KIDDOS will draw a question card, ANSWER the question then get the opportunity to BOWL...IF they get pull a CHAIN card then they get a point for each CHAIN pin they knock down.  If they pull a FLAME card they get a point for each FLAME pin they knock down.  I know they are going to LOVE the BOWLING aspect of this game.  :-)

Next week we will REVIEW this LESSON and the KIDDOS will do their EXPLORER JOURNAL activity.    This activity is a SLIDING type activity.  It is similar to the EXPLORER JOURNAL activity the KIDDOS made, when we learned about Israel going into captivity.

The arrow is sort of 3D...it POPS up off the MAP.  The city of Jerusalem is printed on the MAP.  I cut a slit in the MAP with an razor blade.  In order for the KIDDOS to be able to SLIDE their HEBREWS from Jerusalem to Babylon we will attach their HEBREWS to these small wooden craft stick.    It makes it very easy to slide the Hebrews.

Jehoshaphat A Godly King of Judah

This Sunday we will be learning about King Jehoshaphat.  I love being able to teach about GODLY KINGS.    The KIDDOS are geuinely happy to FINALLY be learning about godly kings.  After all NOT ONE King of Israel was godly..."NO NOT ONE."  (Imagine small children saying those words....every time I ask if Israel had a godly king....that is how they answer me.)

The KIDDOS will be able to answer all of these questions by the time we finish the lesson on King Jehoshaphat.   I REALLY want the KIDDOS to understand the WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? WHERE? WHY? and HOW is this  IMPORTANT to ME?  (The purpose to the 2 WHERE questions.....I want the KIDDOS to  know WHERE on a map the events happened.  I also want the KIDDOS to know WHERE in the Bible they can find the story.)

I have added several PICS to demonstrate our VISUAL AID for this lesson.  If you follow me on Face Book you have already seen this...I am using a BREAD SLICER that I purchased at a Thrift Store for 99 Cents!!!!  I am so excited about ALL the possible used for this BREAD SLICER.

For this lesson we will REMOVE a CARD as we tell the story....SLOWLY revealing the card behind....As the story progresses I will have the KIDDOS take turns PULLING out the card to reveal the next card.

I want to encourage Bible Class Teachers to "RETHINK" items.  You just might find the perfect widget to fill a need....IF YOU OPEN YOUR MIND TO REUSING something for a NEW PURPOSE.

We have TWO new words for our WORD WALL.  We will be adding the word "ALLIED" and the word "FAST."  I did not get a picture of the word "FAST."  I have a hamburger with a red "NO" sign over it.

We have a NEW place on our MAP.  We have added Ramoth Gilead.  Ramoth Gilead is an important city for King Jehoshaphat.  He made a MISTAKE when he allied with Wicked King Ahab and went up to WAR in Ramoth Gilead.   We will talk about Jehoshaphat's MISTAKE.

I want to SHARE with you a PICTURE that shows HOW I display the past lessons EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY and MEMORY VERSES.  I feel it is important to REVIEW PAST LESSONS the KIDDOS have learned...Having these activities and memory verses on display makes it EASY for me to BRING up past lessons we have learned.

I love how our KINGS Bulletin Board is GROWING with information for the KIDDOS.  You can see we learn about Three NEW Prophets with the lesson on Jehoshaphat.

We have Micaiah---he technically belongs over in Israel with AHAB.  But, we did not refer to him until this lesson.  So, we are adding him now.  We have Jehu and Jahaziel.  Both of them went to Jehoshaphat.

I decided this would be a WONDERFUL Memory Verse for the KIDDOS.  This is what the people sang when they went out to defend Judah.  GOD defeated their enemy for them.  This verse comes directly from our lesson text.

The TAKE HOME project this week is a REALLY SIMPLE project.  We are making paper Bracelets.  These are sooo simple.  They are made from card stock.

These are NOT fancy and NOT hard to make...they are assembled with TAPE.  The KIDDOS are going to get to use MARKERS!!  That will make these "extra special."

PLEASE forgive the DOT on my hand.  That is my BRAIN.  You see, when I need to remember SOMETHING important, I put a DOT on my hand.  :-)

Our Review Game is Called "Change of Heart."  After all Jehoshaphat had a change of heart, when he made a mistake--he REPENTED and turned back to GOD.

This is HOW this game will be played.  The KIDDOS  will have a "POPPIN HEART," labeled with their name.

This was the HARDEST picture to take!!
It landed PERFECTLY!!
They will get to 'set' the heart and place it on their choice of the three solid hearts.  When the heart POPS up and lands in one of the hearts with questions...the KIDDOS will answer that question.  I do have a few PINK hearts....they say "CHOOSE a Different Heart"...Sort of a Play on the idea that Jehoshaphat Changed His Heart.

I purchased the "POPPIN HEARTS" during the VALENTINE season at Walmart.  I knew then that I wanted to PUT those to use in a Review Game.  Those RED HEART Containers came from Mardels.  I bought them a few years ago.  CAN you believe I got them for 39 cents a piece.  I LOVE 90% off sales!!!!!  These containers have SO many POSSIBILITIES!  For now they serve a need to REVIEW the life of Jehoshaphat the King of Judah.  :-)

When you see the "EXPLORER JOURNAL" Activity for this lesson....You will see why I decided to go VERY simple with the "TAKE HOME" project for our lesson.  :-)

The KIDDOS will make their "EXPLORER JOURNAL"  activity NEXT WEEK.  Each of my lessons are designed for two weeks.  The first week we LEARN the next week we REVIEW!!   I love having that second week...it allows me to FILL in any missing information and correct any misunderstood information.

The KIDDOS will be making these HEART SHAPED BOOKS for their EXPLORER JOURNALS.

Since, these take a bit of work to assemble, I will do all of the assembling of the pages prior to class time.  I do not want to waste any of our PRECIOUS BIBLE CLASS TIME on unnecessary TIME STEALERS!!!

During class time the  KIDDOS will color the words on the heart pages  and attach all the stickers and 3D items.

I copied the "pages" of the heart onto RED copy paper and folded them over a thin piece of cording.  Once I had all the pages folded over their cords, I threaded them through a hole and tied them off on the back side of the PINK CARD STOCK.  Then for added security I taped them to the back of the PINK Paper.

I used a LOT of FOAMY STICKERS, Homemade Stickers (I LOVE having a sticker maker.  It is a lifesaver when you cannot FIND the perfect stickers for your projects.)  and Model Magic for the COMMANDMENTS!!   BTW, I found these SWORD blades in a SET of VBS material sold at Hobby Lobby.

This seems like a REALLY long post...but, it was so HARD to eliminate pictures...I really feel that PICTURES are worth a MILLION WORDS.  I feel it is easier to SEE what I am doing in Bible Class!!  Hope you feel this way too.

Blessings,
